[14 March 1943] In the meantime, all the Jews living in section B are gathered on Zgody Square (Square of Agreement) and are waiting for the sentence. Trucks come and take Jews and at the same time gunshots are fired on Zgody Square. Other SSmen enter hospitals: general, epidemic and terminally ill. German thugs shoot and murder every patient in the hospital, nurses and physicians [...]. They won, there is no Jew left alive. They killed every Jews they saw in section A. [...] Around 700 Jews were shot there and about 2,000 were sent to Oświęcim (Auschwitz) to die in gas chambers. [...] Zgody Square and yards surrounding it were covered with dead bodies. Those Jews who were not killed immediately were finished off. [...] On Sunday afternoon [14 March 1943] an order from SS came to remove the bodies from the hospitals, yards and Zgoda Square. Bodies had to be undressed (Judenrat was supposed to do this, saying that they were given a false number of the Jews - 1500, and since there were more, they were finished off). Removing bodies takes all Monday. Naked bodies are being thrown onto lorries and taken to the cemetery in Płaszów. |
