In the dusk of 9 September 1939 Wehrmacht Military Forces or Geheime Feldpolizei surrounded the following streets [Kołłątaja, Kościelna, Bóżnicza, Plebańska] forcing the residents to stay at their homes. [...] The synagogue was burnt down. They threw grenades into apartments through the windows. People trying to escape the burning buildings were shot and thrown back into the flames. 14 names were known, but the number of killed was much higher.
