After two weeks [beginning of July 1941] the Germans entered Zolochiv and conducted an extermination of Jews - 5,000 Jews were killed in the Zolochiv Castle. The execution was conducted as follows: the Jews were herded in the Zolochiv Castle, ordered to dig pits and while doing that, the Germans where shooting and the Jews were falling into the pits. On the way to the Castle, the Ukrainian were beating us on the heads and necks with axes, so we were barely alive when we reached the Castle. 3,000 Jews hid in Zolochiv and they survived. During this massacre, I was so scared that I passed out - the bodies were falling on me, they covered me and thanks to that I survived. |
