In the autumn of 1941 the following policemen: Wacek, Lerek, Marecki, Zebryk and Żukowski, herded all of us to the market. On our way to the market some women warned us that we were in trouble. When we were on the market, the Lida county commander and the SSmen surrounded us. The SSmen ordered us to stand in rows and one of them asked everyone about their occupation. All the intelligentsia - merchants and teachers - were separated and locked in a nearby shop. After that, the local police took many to that shop others saying "he's a communist". Then, a truck came and started taking the arrested people from the shop out of the town. Before, one of the SSmen was compiling a register and taking people's documents saying he's taking them to work. After 20 minutes the truck would come back and take new victims. This deportation lasted 3 hours. Later on, we learnt where this "work site" was located. It was a forest in the Stoniewicze village, where they were all executed, 223 people altogether. The local police wanted to transport the last 70 people locked in the shop, but the SSman told them to go back home. |
