| העדות המלאה | The place of mass executions and the location of mass graves, commonly known as 'Nowosiołki' is situated on the grounds of Barszczewo commune, near Fasa. Nowiosiołki village is located on the ground of Choroszcz commune. On the 8th km of the road from Białystok to Warsaw you would turn right. On both sides of the road, about 150 m from the road there are burnt buildings. Those were military warehouses. [...] Then, an unpaved track turns right into the forest. Then slides down to a meadow. On the left, there is a visible shooting range, on the right side of the road - the location of mass executions and mass graves. Now there are only traces of the graves, brighter spots, difficult to notice. About 25 mass graves were situated there; they were exhumed by Germans and the bodies were burnt. (...) 5 graves and located closest to the road, almost parallel to it. The first one is 13x3, the second - 30x3, filled only to half of its length leaving an empty 15 m long pit. The third one 6x3, the fourth 7x3 and the fifth 3x3. The distance between the graves was 2-3 m. Those graves date back to 1943. The Grave no. 6, 10x3, is located perpendicular to the grave no. 4, which is 18 m long. Others lie perpendicular to it. Grave no. 7, 12 m long, is located parallel to grave no. 5. Grave no. 8 lies 3 m away and is 20 m long. 20 m to the right there are two parallel graves, each 20 m long. Following the arc, there is the 11th grave, which is 23 long. Grave no. 14 is located 10 m away. Graves no. 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 are currently just stripes of yellow sand. What's more, a forest road runs through that place, making it difficult to determine the location of those graves. The graves are supposedly from 1941 (...). Grave no. 15, which is 13 m long, is located 35 m to the left from grave no. 17. Moreover, 2 graves are located on the hill: one is 13 m long, the other one 17 m. The distance between them is 5 m. Mentally ill people from the hospital in Choroszcza are supposed to be buried there. Farther on the left there are 2 graves, one behind another, 13 m and 11 m long subsequently. In the middle of that area, there are 6 graves, 17 and 9 m long /parallel/ - 15 and 19 m parallel to each other, but almost perpendicular to the aforementioned graves. There is also a 10 m long grave and an 11 m long grave behind it - they form a row. To check if the graves were deep enough, it was made sure that the bodies were not sticking out. The pits were deep but narrow. Probably only grave no. 8 had not been burnt. |
