[27 June 1941] It all began at 8 a.m. (...) Horrifying events were taking place on the streets. Jews were being dragged out of their homes, ordered to stand in line by the wall and executed. Groups of those unfortunate ones were led to the burning Great Synagogue from every direction. Horrifying screams were coming form the Synagogue. Germans were forcing their victims to push one another into the burning Synagogue; those who were trying to resist were shot and their bodies were thrown inside. (...) Jews were being dragged to the burning Synagogue till late afternoon, shots were being fired on the streets and in the houses. |
